18
year old Prince Edward Island (PEI) fiddling sensation Cynthia
MacLeod
twirled her magic and had them footstomping and stepdancing at the
Canadian-American Club, in Watertown, Massachusetts. Headlining with

one another throughout the night. A special treat
was in store for the revelers, as guest piano accompaniment for a
handful of square sets was performed
by Charlie MacLeod (tres distant relation?) and New Waterford, Cape
Breton, Nova Scotia's own Doug MacPhee. (Doug was in town for a
recording project with the Atlantic Strings).

Suzie Vinnick, Rick Fines, &
Miche Pouliot
Greater Boston
Tour. Well, everyone, before there was a colloboration with any
hospital, there was the hope that musical collaborations could
one day lead to fundraising. Kicking off all of our musical ventures
was a tour of this area by a/cdwhite/beth.html">Beth Ferguson , Suzie Vinnick
and Rick
Fines. A few phone calls to
Suzie in the autumn of '96 led to Suzie and Rick teaming up with
drummer extraordinare Miche
Pouliot
on a week's venture to Waltham for a little radio and gigging. Yea,
verily, although the first "major" concert had sooo many attendees
disguised as empty seats, by the end of the week, plans were underway
for the 2nd 'Annual' event! The support of Rick, Suzie, and Miche that
first weekend was immeasurable. Thanks ! And don't forget John Lincoln
Wright and the Sourmash boys for their performing and welcoming of our
Canadian contingent. The first auditorium concert was MC'ed by Bob
Cannon, who became our perennial host.

| Summer
Vacation, August, 1996 |
Wild
Rufus Records. Camden, Maine. It
was just before driving home
from our vacation trip up the coast of Maine with two of my children
(Kevin and Julie), when Kevin; seeing some spark in me, suggested I do
something with music to help make money to "build mommy's hospital
garden patio". Well, over the next four hours on the ride home,
thoughts of benefit concerts featuring Canadians (in particular Suzie
Vinnick) purcolated.
By the end of the night, the concept was cemented, and one friendship
and musical partnership at a time, the first garden patio in memory of
Kevin, Julie, Carolyn, and Danny's mother came to fruition in 2001 !
(Now, it's on to one (or more) in Ottawa, and after
the second one makes it a trend -- we can be help get them at treatment
centers everywhere). Woo Hoo !! |
